Tesseract is an open-source OCR engine whose line recognizer is an LSTM network, with traineddata for more than a hundred languages and scripts and the ability to fine-tune on a specific font or domain corpus. It outputs plain text, hOCR, TSV or searchable PDF, and is driven from the command line, the C++ API or the pytesseract Python binding. It's our choice when printed documents have to be read on the client's own infrastructure, without shipping a single page to a third-party API.
